How to proceed in Varsinais-Suomi
- First find out the deceased's parish and the preferred burial place. A member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is usually buried in their own parish cemetery, and the parish gives guidance on reserving the grave and submitting the burial permit.
- Ask at least two funeral directors for an itemised quote. A funeral director can handle the death notice, transport, the coffin or urn, booking the ceremony and the official paperwork on the family's behalf.
- For cremation, the nearest crematorium may be in another municipality, so agree transport and timing with the funeral director early in the planning.
- The estate inventory (perunkirjoitus) must be completed within three months of the death, and the procedure is the same across Finland. See our guides for practical advice.
