How to proceed in Satakunta

  1. First find out the deceased's parish and the preferred burial place. A member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is usually buried in their own parish cemetery, and the parish gives guidance on reserving the grave and submitting the burial permit.
  2. Ask at least two funeral directors for an itemised quote. A funeral director can handle the death notice, transport, the coffin or urn, booking the ceremony and the official paperwork on the family's behalf.
  3. For cremation, the nearest crematorium may be in another municipality, so agree transport and timing with the funeral director early in the planning.
  4. The estate inventory (perunkirjoitus) must be completed within three months of the death, and the procedure is the same across Finland. See our guides for practical advice.
